Trees n Trunks is a Youth Expedition Project into it’s 2^nd year undertaken by NUS Rotaract Club, in collaboration with The Green Volunteers. We hope to continue making small differences to the lives of an overseas community and spread the message of environmental and animal conservation.

This December, our team will be embarking on a 19 day expedition to Chiang Mai, Thailand. This expedition includes two phases, the first being spent at a Karen Hilltribe (Wung Kra Village) and the second being spent at Elephant Nature Park. Through this expedition, we hope to provide learning opportunities to the participants and increase the awareness of their potential to make a difference in the lives of others.

Karen Hilltribe

During the first half of our expedition, we will be living in a Karen Hilltribe called Wung Kra. They currently face a shortage in supply of clean and drinkable water and we aim to address their water supply concerns by aiding in the construction of water tanks and wells, as well as structures to house their water filtering system. In addition, we will be planting fruit saplings at each household for self-sustenance.

Elephant Nature Park

For the second half of our expedition, we will be proceeding to Elephant Nature Park (ENP) to lend a hand in rebuilding the natural habitat of the Thai elephants. ENP is an elephant rescue and rehabilitation centre situated in Northern Thailand. Currently, the elephants in Thailand are still being used as objects of street begging or logging and many have keepers who are abusive. ENP seeks to rescue such distressed elephants and restore them to their natural habitat where they can roam about freely. At ENP, we will carry out the daily chores to aid in the upkeep of the elephants as well as help restore the natural habitat of the Thai elephants.

To carry out these activities, our project requires your support. Your support will go a long way in helping to improve the way of life of the Karen villagers as well as to provide a better living environment for the elephants in Thailand.
